ABOUT US SHOWER WEDDING TRIP CEREMONY RECEPTION HONEYMOON FAQ PHOTOS HOME |
![]() For our wedding we planned a ceremony in in Scotland and decided take our families with us. As you can imagine, this news completely surprised our families. Once they got over the disbelief, almost everyone wanted to go. Others, who weren't so thrilled, but decided to go anyway because it was important for them to see us get married. That meant there were 12 people who made the trip from Minneapolis to Glasgow on March 27th.
Driving was quite an experience at first. Not only was the driver on the right hand side of the car and driving on the left, but there were very few stopsigns and stoplights. Instead there were roundabouts and roadsigns that made no sense!! The guys have stories galore to tell about their first driving experiences. The scenery was amazing, even from the motorway, which is three lanes a speed limit of 75. Most people drove 100 though. In Scotland we stayed at Orroland Lodge. It is a country house that we rented for the week. It completely exceeded our expectations! The host was friendly and the surroundings were lovely. From there we had a base for sightseeing, relaxing, and whatever we chose to do. Last minute wedding preparations took up most of the time, but there was still time for exploring the neighboring towns and buying souvenirs.
The lodge is self-catering, meaning that we were the only ones there and could cook, wash clothes, etc. if we needed to. Going grocery shopping was quite an experience! We found that while most everything we tried was good, a lot of the items in the store was foreign to us. Chips came in flazors like worchestire and digestives were actually cookies. Orroland is located on the coast of the Solway Firth. We spent a lot of time traveling up and down the steep hill to the shore. There was a waterfall along the way and lots of foliage that was unfamiliar to us. The family stayed for a week, with the wedding ceremony on Thursday, March 30th. Most people seemed like they wished they could stay longer and some mentioned returning again some day. We were just happy that we could give our families a once in a lifetime experience.
